INSTINCTS MATTER

"The War of the Worlds" (1953), Production Stills, this thread, cloudster.com

My guess is that "The War of the Worlds," (1953, the first filmed adaptation of H.G. Wells' book by the same title), like a 1939 Ford truck, will remain an excellent work from the past. Some things are best left to memory, or, perhaps, a DVD from whence the memories are best made.
I could be wrong, I realize. But the SPIEGEL interview shares an unbearable likeness to discomfort at arms length.

The remake rendition, in theatres June 29, 2005.
