Something about the following interview captures a higher degree of unease than I'd have anticipated and not by who I'd default to presume it upon.


DER SPIEGEL INTERVIEW WITH TOM CRUISE AND STEPHEN SPIELBERG


My guess is that "The War of the Worlds," (1953, the first filmed adaptation of H.G. Wells' book by the same title), like a 1939 Ford truck, will remain an excellent work from the past. Some things are best left to memory, or, perhaps, a DVD from whence the memories are best made.


I could be wrong, I realize. But the SPIEGEL interview shares an unbearable likeness to discomfort at arms length.
